Keira Dormer-Hazell
Graduating in 2023 with a degree in Drama & Musical Theatre, Keira always knew she has a passion for new work. Moving to Nottingham in 2023 only secured this position further, becoming part of Nottingham Homegrown Creatives and other networks for emerging creatives. Also pursuing her passion for education and teaching, Keira gained a post graduate teaching diploma and spent her training year at Nottingham College teaching across the Acting and Musical Theatre faculty. Since then, Keira has taught in many venues across the East Midlands, both in formal education environments and other groups. Keira has been teaching at Nottingham Arts Theatre for 3 years and found her passion for producing through her growing involvement with the holiday school programme offered at the theatre, which she is now the producer for.
As a theatre-maker Keira has evolved greatly over the course of many differing projects spanning musical theatre, classics and contemporary works. Through this Keira discovered her key principal that underpins all of her theatre practice. Utilising political theatre strategies, like those of Brecht, to distance audiences from the emotional core of the dialogue whilst using ensemble storytelling and movement to reveal the truth behind the dialogue. This philosophy of theatre making came to fruition through her work adapting and directing Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, realising that the audience understanding changed greatly depending on the visual story told as apposed to the meaning of the dialogue. Keira used this project to explore the relationship between text and truth, which goes onto inform her practice to this day as a director, theatre-maker and writer.
In the little spare time has, Keira chooses to spend her time performing. Acting was never the profession for Keira but she defiantly enjoys it when she gets the chance to perform. Her most recent role as Killer Queen in We Will Rock You (Newark Palace Theatre, 2026) has been a big inspiration for girl-boss energy!
